Discount Calculator
Find final price and savings after a percentage discount.
Original price is required.
About This Tool
Work out a sale price before checkout by entering the original price and advertised percentage discount. The calculator separates the amount saved from the final price, which makes it useful for comparing promotions, checking a receipt, or deciding whether a markdown is actually worthwhile.
How To Use It
- Enter the original price before the discount.
- Enter the advertised discount percentage.
- Review both the amount saved and the final price after the discount.
- Use the result as a pre-tax estimate unless the listed price already includes tax.
Examples
25% off 120
A 25% discount on 120 saves 30 and leaves a final price of 90.
15% off 79.99
A 15% discount saves about 12.00, leaving a final price of about 67.99 before any separate tax or fees.
Compare two promotions
Calculate each offer separately when deciding between a 20% discount and a fixed-price deal. Compare the final prices rather than only the advertised percentages.
Useful Notes
How the discount is calculated
Savings equal original price multiplied by the discount percentage divided by 100. Final price equals original price minus those savings.
Discounts and sales tax
This tool does not automatically add sales tax. Depending on local rules, tax may be calculated from the discounted price or handled differently by the seller.
Stacked discounts are not simple addition
Two sequential discounts such as 20% and then 10% are not the same as 30% off. Apply each discount to the updated price when promotions are stacked.
Rounding at checkout
Retail systems may round currency at intermediate steps, so a receipt can differ by a cent from a calculation performed with more decimal precision.
FAQ
Does this include tax?
No. It calculates the discount and final pre-tax price only unless the price you enter already includes tax.
Can I calculate more than one discount?
The calculator handles one percentage at a time. For stacked discounts, calculate the first discount and use its final price as the starting price for the next one.
What does 100% off mean?
A 100% discount reduces the entered price to zero. Discounts above 100% are generally not meaningful for normal retail pricing.
Why is my store receipt off by a cent?
Checkout systems may use currency-specific rounding rules or round tax and discount amounts at different stages.
