About This Tool
Compare packages on the same basis by dividing what you pay by how much you actually receive. This unit price calculator works for individual items, weights, volumes, sheets, capsules, servings, and other countable quantities. It also handles multipacks, so a price for several identical packages can be converted into one consistent cost per unit without doing the arithmetic manually.
How To Use It
- Enter the total price you would pay for the package or multipack.
- Enter the quantity contained in one pack, such as 500 for a 500 g bag or 12 for a 12-item box.
- If the listed price covers multiple identical packs, enter the number of packs; otherwise leave it at 1.
- Optionally name the unit, such as g, ml, sheet, capsule, or item, so the result is easier to interpret.
Examples
Six items for 12
A package costing 12 for 6 items costs 2 per item. The currency does not need to be selected because the calculator preserves whatever currency your entered price represents.
Three 500 g packs
If a three-pack costs 9 and each pack contains 500 g, the total quantity is 1,500 g and the unit price is 0.006 per gram. For a practical shelf comparison, you can multiply that figure by 100 to compare cost per 100 g.
Two 1.5-liter bottles
For two bottles containing 1.5 L each, enter 1.5 as the quantity and 2 as the pack count. The calculator uses the combined 3 L quantity when finding the price per liter.
Useful Notes
Unit price formula
Total quantity equals quantity per pack multiplied by the number of packs. Unit price then equals total price divided by that total quantity. The calculation does not convert between measurement units, so both products should use the same unit before their unit prices are compared.
Use the same unit for fair comparisons
A price per gram cannot be compared directly with a price per kilogram, and a price per milliliter cannot be compared directly with a price per liter. Convert package quantities to a common unit first when labels use different measurement scales.
Multipacks and bonus quantities
For identical multipacks, enter the quantity in one pack and the number of packs. If a promotion changes the quantity inside individual packs, use a quantity and pack count that represent the actual total received rather than relying on the marketing label.
Price is only one comparison factor
A lower unit price can make quantity comparisons easier, but it does not account for quality, waste, expiry, delivery charges, taxes not included in the entered price, or whether you will use the full amount. Treat it as one practical comparison measure rather than a complete buying recommendation.
FAQ
What currency does the calculator use?
Any currency works because no exchange-rate conversion is performed. If you enter a price in dollars, rupees, euros, or another currency, the unit-price result is in that same currency.
Can I calculate price per gram or milliliter?
Yes. Enter the package quantity in grams or milliliters and use g or ml as the unit label. The result will be the entered package price divided by that quantity.
How do I compare two package sizes?
Calculate each package using the same quantity unit. The lower price per identical unit is cheaper by quantity, assuming the entered prices include the same relevant costs.
Does it include tax, coupons, or delivery fees?
Only if you include them in the total price you enter. For an after-discount comparison, enter the amount you would actually pay after any coupon or discount that applies.
