Years and months follow actual calendar boundaries rather than fixed 365-day years or 30-day months.
Total elapsed days
The total-day result measures the absolute number of calendar-day transitions between the two dates and is useful when a raw duration is required.
Why month-based and day-based results differ
A calendar month can contain 28, 29, 30, or 31 days, so converting the years-months-days result into a fixed number of days can produce the wrong answer.
Calendar days include weekends

FAQ
What happens if the dates are reversed?
The calculator shows the absolute difference and notes that the dates were entered in reverse order.
Is this the same as counting business days?

Why not divide total days by 30 to get months?
Calendar months do not have a fixed length, so calendar-aware month calculations are more accurate for human-readable date differences.
