About This Tool

Convert a source date and clock time into another timezone using browser-native IANA timezone data, including offset changes caused by daylight saving time. The tool is built for meeting planning, launch coordination, support handoffs, travel checks, remote classes, and any schedule where the destination date may shift as well as the hour.

How To Use It

  1. Enter the date and clock time exactly as they apply in the source timezone.
  2. Or choose Use my current local time to fill the source timezone, date, and time from your browser.
  3. Choose the source and destination IANA timezones.
  4. Check the converted destination time, source offset, destination offset, and day-shift note.
  5. Compare the nearby hourly options to find a time that falls within typical working hours in both zones.
  6. Choose Use time on a nearby option to make it the active conversion before copying or sharing it.
  7. Use the ISO 8601 instant when you need a timezone-independent value for an invite, API, log, or schedule record.
  8. Use Swap when you need to reverse the conversion direction without reselecting both timezones.
  9. Copy a share link when another person needs to reopen the same date, time, source timezone, and destination timezone.
  10. Choose a meeting duration and download a calendar event when you are ready to add the converted time to a calendar app.

Examples

Schedule across regions

Convert 9:00 AM in New York to London, Tokyo, or Kolkata time before sending a meeting invite, then check whether the destination date stays the same.

Check a launch time

Translate a webinar, release, or livestream time from the host city into an audience timezone and copy the ISO instant for a single source of truth.

Catch a next-day shift

A late evening time in Los Angeles can land on the next calendar day in Tokyo. The day-shift note helps prevent sending the right hour on the wrong date.

Useful Notes

Timezone database

The converter relies on the browser runtime's IANA timezone data, so daylight-saving and historical offset changes are handled by the platform.

Date matters

Offsets can change during the year, so the same cities may be a different number of hours apart in winter and summer. The time-difference result uses the selected date rather than assuming a fixed year-round gap.

Working-hours comparison

The nearby-time table compares four hours before and after the selected instant and marks whether each option falls from 9:00 AM through 4:59 PM in both zones. Choose Use time to promote a candidate into the active conversion, then copy or share it. Treat the working-hour range as a planning guide rather than a claim about anyone's actual availability.

Named zones beat abbreviations

Use named timezones such as America/New_York or Europe/London instead of abbreviations like EST, CST, or IST. Abbreviations can be ambiguous and may ignore daylight-saving rules.

One instant, several labels

The converted local time, UTC offsets, and ISO 8601 instant all describe the same moment. The ISO value is useful when a system needs an unambiguous timestamp.

Shareable meeting context

The share link stores the selected date, clock time, source timezone, and destination timezone in the URL so the same conversion can be reopened. It does not create an account or save the schedule on a separate service.

Calendar handoff

The calendar download uses the selected instant and meeting duration in a standard iCalendar file. Calendar apps display that same instant in the viewer's own timezone, so the event does not depend on a copied timezone abbreviation.

FAQ

Does this use fixed offsets like EST equals UTC-5?

No. It uses IANA timezone identifiers and runtime timezone rules, including daylight saving where applicable.

Why did the converted date move forward or backward?

A timezone conversion can cross midnight. The day shift indicates whether the destination time lands on the previous or next calendar date.

How is the time difference calculated?

The tool compares the source and destination UTC offsets at the selected instant. This accounts for half-hour and quarter-hour zones as well as daylight-saving changes on that date.

Should I choose a city timezone or a UTC offset?

Choose a city-style IANA timezone when possible because it includes daylight-saving and historical rules. A fixed offset is only safe when the source you are following explicitly gives that offset.

What is the ISO 8601 instant for?

It is the same moment expressed as a UTC timestamp. Use it when you need a portable value for APIs, calendars, logs, or schedule records.

Can I share a timezone conversion?

Yes. Copy share link creates a URL that restores the selected date, time, and timezones. Those values are visible in the URL, so do not add private meeting details to the link.

Can I add the converted time to my calendar?

Yes. Choose a duration and download the iCalendar file. Open it with a compatible calendar app to review and save the event. The file contains the selected instant, duration, and source and destination timezone names, but no attendee or account data.
