Converters
Area Converter
Convert square meters, square feet, acres, hectares, and more.
About This Tool
Convert area values between metric, imperial, US customary, and common land-measurement units without confusing linear and square conversion factors. The comparison table shows the same input across every supported unit, which is useful for floor plans, property listings, landscaping, construction estimates, maps, and surface measurements. For property or legal records, use the unit and precision stated by the authoritative survey or document rather than treating a converted estimate as a surveyed area.
How To Use It
- Enter the area value.
- Choose the unit you are converting from.
- Choose the target area unit.
- Use Swap to reverse the conversion, or copy the numeric result.

Useful Notes
Supported units
The converter includes square millimeters, square centimeters, square meters, square kilometers, square inches, square feet, square yards, square miles, acres, and hectares.
Area is squared length
Area units scale by the square of length units. Because one foot equals 12 inches, one square foot equals 12 × 12 = 144 square inches, not 12 square inches.
Acres and hectares are land-area units
One acre equals 43,560 square feet or 4,046.8564224 square meters. One hectare equals 10,000 square meters, so a hectare is about 2.47105 acres.
Do not square the displayed conversion yourself
The converter already uses area conversion factors. If you have a length measurement such as a room's width and height, calculate the area first, then convert that area value to the desired square unit.
Converted area is not a property survey
Unit conversion can translate a known area accurately, but it cannot establish property boundaries or correct an inaccurate source measurement. For legal or transactional land use, rely on the authoritative survey or record.
